Keeping Your Restaurant Busy

As a restaurant owner, there aren't many things more challenging than keeping a steady stream of customers coming in through the front door. Unfortunately, these kinds of challenges can eventually arrest the cash flow of your business, which can cause all kinds of problems in the long run. About three months ago, I decided that it would be a good idea to start focusing more on my own restaurant so that I could improve things. I started small, by changing the way that our team handled a few things, and then eventually worked towards reworking the entire menu. This blog is all about making your restaurant more profitable.

You Don't Have To Avoid Pizza Restaurants To Get A Healthy Meal

Blog

If you have been avoiding pizza restaurants because you are trying to eat healthier, here are some tips that will put an end to your suffering. In some health circles, pizza gets a bad rap. While this popular fun food can have a lot of calories, fat, and sodium, if you know how to order correctly you can get a healthy pie. Ask questions about the ingredients before you order. If the waiter can't help you, ask to speak with the cook or manager.

Crust

Ask for a whole wheat crust. Not all pizza restaurants will offer this, but you may be surprised to find they do have it even if it isn't on the menu. This crust will have more fiber in it which will help with digestion and blood sugar levels. If they do not have a whole wheat crust, make sure to order a thin crust. This will help cut down on the calories and the carbohydrates.

Sauce

The main health concern with tomato sauce is the sodium. The cook or manager can read the sodium content on the can if they are unsure. High amounts of sodium will result in water retention and can cause high blood pressure. You can ask if they offer a sauce with low sodium. You could also ask for a reduced amount or no sauce at all. Keep in mind that tomato sauce also has a lot of lycopene in it. This is an antioxidant that will help reduce the risk of certain cancers. So, if they don't have a low sodium option, ask for a light sauce instead.

Cheese

It seems to be common for people to ask for extra cheese on their pizza. Everyone loves cheese. While it is true that mozzarella cheese is a good source of calcium and protein, it also has a lot of fat and sodium in it. Ask for a low-fat cheese and never ask for extra. If they don't have a low-fat option, ask for less cheese than normal.

Toppings

When it comes to pizza toppings, pepperoni is the most popular. Unfortunately, it is high in sodium and nitrates, and highly processed. If you want meat on your pie, go for chicken or ham instead. Add a lot of vegetables too in order to make each piece more filling and provide you with a healthy dinner.

Don't feel you have to skip Friday night pizza or enjoying a slice or two while watching a movie. However, take advantage of the tips mentioned and you will be eating a healthy meal or snack.
