Keeping Your Restaurant Busy

As a restaurant owner, there aren't many things more challenging than keeping a steady stream of customers coming in through the front door. Unfortunately, these kinds of challenges can eventually arrest the cash flow of your business, which can cause all kinds of problems in the long run. About three months ago, I decided that it would be a good idea to start focusing more on my own restaurant so that I could improve things. I started small, by changing the way that our team handled a few things, and then eventually worked towards reworking the entire menu. This blog is all about making your restaurant more profitable.

5 Things You Can Do To Make Your Pizza More Nutritious

Blog

If you're like many people who love pizza, you're probably aware that it isn't considered to be a particularly healthy choice. However, pizza is hard for anyone to resist. Fortunately, there are ways that you can make pizza night more nutritional. The following are just five of the many ways that customized pizza can be a healthier option than its traditional counterpart.

Whole Grain Crusts

Pizza crusts have taken on a whole new life in recent years. Many pizzerias offer a wide selection of crusts ranging from cheese-stuffed crusts to artisan crusts made with whole grains. Whole grain crusts are far more the nutritious choice, delivering more protein and fiber than their traditional or trendy counterparts.

Roasted Vegetables

Loading up your pizza with extra vegetables provides a significant amount of added nutrition. Broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, and spinach are all popular choices, but you can also add less conventional options such as sliced carrots or cucumbers. Roasted root vegetables such as sweet potatoes, turnips, squash, and beets add an intriguing depth of flavor to any pizza.

Leaner Meats

Most meats traditionally used on pizza are of the heavy and fatty variety, but these can easily be replaced by healthier choices. You can ask for lean beef, chicken, or even seafood instead of standard choices such as pepperoni or sausage. You can even choose to go meatless if you like. With the right ingredients, you probably won't miss the taste of meat at all.

Lighter Cheeses

Pizza wouldn't be pizza without cheese, but low-fat Monterey Jack or Mozzarella don't pack the same high-fat punch that cheddar and American cheeses do. Also, make sure you're getting real cheese instead of commercially produced "cheese food," which is actually mostly condensed oil that has been artificially flavored and colored. Even if you really can't do without cheddar cheese on your pizza, ensuring that it's authentic cheese is still the healthier choice.

Serve With a Salad

One of the main problems with pizza is that people tend to overindulge when it's on the table. Eating it with a salad helps cut down on hunger pangs, making it less likely that you'll overeat. Enjoying your salad in a leisurely fashion provides you with time to start feeling full before you tackle the pizza.

Pizza has come a long way from the standard meat, cheese, sauce, and crust concoctions of the past. Today's pizza can be customized in a huge variety of ways, so don't be afraid to experiment until you find a combination that you absolutely love.
